COVID 19 Treatment
There are two oral medications that are under Emergency Use Authorization for COVID-19 infection in people with mild to moderate symptoms, Pfizer’s paxlovid and Merck’s molnupiravir.
Treatment for COVID-19 infection depends on medical history, risks, and symptoms. A health care provider can determine whether a therapy that is FDA-approved or available under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) is the right treatment for you.
Pfizer’s medication for COVID, paxlovid is a combination of two medications (nirmatrelvir + ritonavir). It is taken three times a day, for 5 days. This medication has Emergency Use Authorization for people age 12 and older.
The Merck COVID medication, molnupiravir is taken twice a day, for 5 days. This pill has Emergency use authorization for people with mild to moderate symptoms age 18 and older.
It is important to note that both medications must be taken within 5 days of COVID symptom onset to be effective.
